There are many different mane and tail styles for the horses. The mane and tail style is "a pair", meaning that a horse can't get, let's say, a Shaggy tail with Mohawk mane. The mane and tail comes together. Most styles can vary in color.
Please note that most styles do not have an official name yet. They are named them by their appearence, and are subject to change when an official name is determined.
The categories below (Short, Long, and Novelty) are just a way of breaking up the huge list of hairstyles into more managable groups; there is no in-game value based on length of hair
Short Hairstyles[]
These hairstyles all have short manes, though their forelocks may be long.
Long Hairstyles[]
These hairstyles all have long manes.
Novelty Hairstyles[]
These are "fantasy" hairstyles, or hairstyles that make your pony look like a different kind of animal.
A Method to the Madness?[]
There is a lot of speculation as to how to breed for a particular mane & tail style and color. At this point, all that can tentitively be said is that:
- A foal will most likely inherit the mane style of one of its parents. So if you want a particular style, you have a 50% chance of getting it if one of the parents does. If both parents have that hair style, the baby is 100% likely to get that hair.
- There may be rules as to to what color the mane and tail will be based on parentage, but this still needs coroboration. See the proposed formulae here.
